Tribal Print Kurtas from Ideas by Gul Ahmed

While at Ideas some time ago, I liked a few of their stitched outfits. I bought two of them, both themed with a tribal print in pretty colors. So let's get started with the review.

The first one is a A-line, round necked, pleated beige kurta with an African tribal dance print. I have never worn such prints and they seemed very different from what I have seen of kurta designs usually. The colors used are totally African. I believe the designs have been printed onto the fabric through heat transfer, because the print texture is sort of rough.

More Specifications:
  • The fabric is pure lawn.
  • The kurta does shrink. That's why I bought a size medium in the first place. Keep the shrinking part in mind, if you intend to buy.
  • It did not lose any color when I washed it. That's one advantage with heat transfer. But keep in mind, the designs will eventually fade. But that will happen gradually, so it's not something to worry about.
  • Shirt length: Around 50 inches.
  • Sizes available: Small, Medium, Large
  • More colors? No.
  • Sides open.
  • I wore a shameez underneath as the fabric is sheer.

The other one is an off-white kurta, with a sherwani collar. It has a huge mask printed in the front. No back design. It reminds me of those huge masks they show in movies. The kurta has tiny dots showered on one half, while the other half is plain. I loved the colors used in this one.

Conclusion: The only thing I did not like was the need to wear shameez underneath summer clothing. Isn't lawn meant to keep away the heat? If you're still ok with it like me, then these are good to wear throughout summers.
